1: What are the system requirements to run The Engineering Toolbar?
The system requirements for running The Engineering Toolbar for IE are:
- Microsoft Windows (98, ME, 2000, XP or Vista)
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater.
The system requirements for running The Engineering Toolbar for Mozilla are:
- (any operating system)
- FireFox 0.8 or greater.
- Mozilla 1.4.1 or greater.
- Netscape 7.1 to 7.2, 8.0.2 or greater
2: When will The Engineering Toolbar be available for other browsers?
The Engineering Toolbar is only available for Internet Explorer, FireFox, Mozilla, and Netscape at the present time. However, the implementation of The Engineering Toolbar with other browsers
may be developed in the future.
3: Can AOL users install The Engineering Toolbar?
No, the Engineering Toolbar can only be installed on Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 (or higher), FireFox, Mozilla, and Netscape at the present time.
1: The Engineering Toolbar is installed, but it does not appear in my browser.
From your browser, click on View > Toolbars and select the GlobalSpec Engineering Toolbar option.
Also, in your browser's menu, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab under the Browsing section, make sure the Enable third-party browser extensions option is checked. If you make this change, you will need to close all browsers and reopen Internet Explorer.
For Mozilla/Netscape/Firefox: If you have not yet done so, you may need to close and reopen browser before you see the toolbar after you install it.
2: Why did the installation of The Engineering Toolbar fail even though I am using Windows NT or 2000?
If you are running Internet Explorer on Windows NT(sp6) or Windows 2000, you need to check with your system administrator to ensure you have the administrative privileges required to install applications.
3: How will I know when a new version of The Engineering Toolbar is available?
The Engineering Toolbar has an auto-update system. Users are notified when an update is made to the toolbar’s DLL. To ensure a flawless update, a warning is issued if more than one instance of Internet Explorer is opened.
4: Can I download the files for The Engineering Toolbar and install it manually?
Internet Explorer:
YES! When you get to the installation page, right-click the link to the executable and save it to your computer.
Mozilla: Right-click and save the xpi file from the mozillainstall page.
5: I am having problems installing The Engineering Toolbar on Windows XP Service Pack 2.
Windows XP, Service Pack 2 has a number of security enhancements that make it more difficult to install 3rd party software over the net.
The following steps should allow you to install the toolbar under SP2:
In your browser's menu, go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced Tab, under the Browsing section, make sure the Enable third-party browser extensions option is checked. If you make this change, you will need to close all browsers and reopen Internet Explorer.
Also, please either check that your firewall is set to permit executable downloads, or temporarily disable it to allow the installation to proceed.
6: I followed the instructions in this FAQ but my installation still fails. What can I do?

Internet Explorer:
You can modify your GlobalSpec Engineering Toolbar options by clicking on the toolbar's Options button, or selecting Settings from the Options dropdown menu.
Mozilla: Not at this time.
2: Is it possible to change the location of The Engineering Toolbar in Internet Explorer?
From your browser, make sure that Lock the toolbars on View > Toolbars is not checked. Once you have verified this, you can move The Engineering Toolbar by grabbing the far left edge with your mouse and moving it elsewhere.
1: Can I hide The Engineering Toolbar? How can I make it reappear?
To either hide or make The Engineering Toolbar reappear:
- In your browser menu, go to View > Toolbar.
- Select the GlobalSpec Engineering Toolbar from the list displayed.
