A-L Laser, a leading laser integrator for the Medical Device manufacturing and other materials processing markets, introduces the UNIVERSAL ON-LINE laser monitor, for use with its full line of laser materials processing systems. The UNIVERSAL ON-LINE monitor was developed in cooperation with Ophir-Spiricon Inc and Precitec, and can be mounted directly to the Precitec laser processing head. The monitor measures beam width at focus, beam shape and other critical laser beam parameters and the delivered output power in real time. This data can then be used for validation of the process, to assure that the process is stable during operation, for tuning the laser for each process and for diagnostics when necessary.
"This kind of instrumentation is vital to the Medical Device Manufacturing market", reports Dr. Ramasamy Elavarasan, Vice-President of Laser Development, "because it opens the window on the process like no other system can. For the first time, the laser technician can monitor the health of the laser while processing, without interfering with the process".
A-l Laser also reports that with the proper adaptor plates, this system can be retrofitted to almost any laser processing workstation. Using the worlds' most widely used laser beam profiling system along with a thermopile or pyroelectric measuring head, coupled to Ophir-Spiricon's new BeamGage software, enables the process parameters to be measured constantly, and to alert the technician if any of the process parameters are exceeded. This enabling technology will reduce wasted parts, increase quality, and reduce the cost of each part, especially important in the current economic environment.
