ADwin system are used in data acquisition and control applications that require very precise timing and deterministic operation. This new white paper from the University of Toronto describes how and ADwin-Pro system is used to control the operation of a magneto-optical atom trap (MOT).
The atom trap is used to capture ultracold condensed clouds of quantum gases. Matter in this state has a number of unique properties that can be used in the study of fundamental atomic physics.
ADwin systems provide both analog and digital inputs and outputs that are used to control the operation of various components in the MOT including multiple lasers, LED's, magnetic coils, a magnetic trap chip, RF and microwave frequency generators, shutters and cameras. The sub-microsecond response time of the ADwin system allows very precise control and sequencing of each of these components to generate capture and manipulate the gas cloud.
