Moisture in oil Measurement

AirTest offers a range of products manufactured by E+E Elektronik that are designed to measure moisture content in oil. These products are ideal for continuous monitoring of moisture in lubrication or insulation oil, which is very important for the long-term performance and preventative maintenance for electrical transformers, large engines and machinery. For instance, moisture affects dramatically the insulation characteristics of electrical transformer oil. All E+E products are designed for operation in the harsh and rugged conditions typically found in environments where moisture in oil is measured.

E+E moisture in oil products provide moisture in oil measurements in two common formats:

• Water Activity (aw) of oil is a measure the amount of water in the oil as a percentage of water saturated oil (similar to the concept of relative humidity). Using this measure, aw = 0 corresponds to water-free oil, while aw = 1 describes fully saturated oil. Like relative humidity, the temperature of the oil affects water content.
• Water Content PPM: This is the water content based on parts per million concentration of water. This value will not change with temperature. This value is derived from the water content of the oil, its temperature and the known characteristics of the oil. For mineral transformer oils the conversion is built in. For water content in non-mineral transformer oils, a conversion factor can be calculated and inputted in the transmitter based on the published oil characteristics.

All EE moisture in oil sensors measures aw and ppm variables along with temperature.
