Precise, Rapid Thermal Control for Filament Wound Composites

New technology (Patent Applied For) from Acrolab Ltd. provides mandrels, used in heat cured, filament wound, composite part production, with a super thermal heat transfer characteristic which significantly improves both cure consistency and cure rate.

This innovative technology has already captured significant interest for parts manufacturing in such industries as...

  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Military
  • Power Generation
  • and others

...where the strength and consistency of their composite parts are critical to the application.

Conveniently, this "Isobar®"heat transfer technology can be installed in most mandrels and requires no external power source or any connection through wiring or piping to the mandrel. The mandrel's exterior is unchanged. Its relationship to the filament winding machinery and the curing oven remains unchanged both physically and mechanically.

Isobar® enhanced mandrels utilize unused energy existing within the cure oven, optimally absorbing that energy and redistributing it in an isothermal fashion. By taking advantage of this new technology the Isobar enhanced mandrel transfers heat energy from directly within the mandrel to the outer diameter of the mandrel.

Because Isobar® enhanced mandrels transfer heat energy at supersonic speeds, not only will your already existing process cure from the outside in, but by utilizing this technology you are now also curing from the inside out!

Our customers have seen scrap rate reduction of up to 20% and lower cure times by up to 50%. But most importantly with this new technology offered by Acrolab the inside diameter of the part now becomes resin saturated. This substantially lowers the porosity throughout the inside diameter of the part. This is a major advantage especially when trying to attain surfaces with a mirror finish.
