Universal Style Spade Drill is the product that launched Allied Machine & Engineering Corp. into the world of metal cutting.

Manufactured and marketed in 1966, the AMEC Universal spade drills found acceptance in the hole-making industry. They were the preferred product of that era, but as other tool companies recognized its demand and success, competition became increasingly overbearing for this small family owned business. There was the need to offer something better to the market place, so in the early 1980's, AMEC designed and manufactured the revolutionary T-A® Drilling System. It was this drilling system that led to the production of the High Performance Spade Drills, which were developed in an effort to allow users of the Universal style drills to retain their original single-bolt holders, while experiencing the benefits of the new T-A® geometry without having to commit to the new T-A® dual-screw holders. That was the best solution for shops that were able to grow their business at their own speeds. The High Performance Spade Drills are available with three types of coatings, TiN, TiCN and TiAlN.
