ALY Fabrication, Inc. provides glass melters and nuclear waste storage and have been involved in the prototype construction of Glass Melters used in the vitrification of low specific activity nuclear waste, providing parts and equipment to Catholic University of America where research was being conducted for this process and also for GTS Duratek, Inc. who commercialized this process and subsequently provided vitrification of low specific activity nuclear waste at the DOE Savannah River Site. The original commercial size glass melter used at Catholic University was fabricated by ALY Fabrication, Inc. along with numerous upgrades and replacement parts. Replacement electrodes and auxiliary equipment for the Savannah River project were fabricated by ALY Fabrication, Inc. along with various parts for a large commercial melter that was previously installed in the basement of Duratek in Columbia, MD. Prototype canisters were later fabricated for the testing of vitrified high level waste storage for the clean up of the DOE Hanford Site in the State of Washington. Scaled down (8' dia. x 10' high) stainless steel storage and process tanks were also fabricated on site in the laboratory at Catholic University of America, Washington D.C.
