The Model 2217-100-00 Fast Steering Mirror from Axsys Technologies is a newly designed tip tilt scanning mirror housed in a compact package. The one inch diameter mirror has a range of more than two degrees in each axis. The mirror is flexure mounted to provide simultaneous tip and tilt. The Fast Steering Mirror is unique in that it provides two dimensional scanning using a single mirror. This approach simplifies the layout and structure of an optical system requiring two axis scanning. It reduces the footprint and offers exceedingly high precision. Typical applications included laser beam alignment, stabilization, limited angle scanning, and vector pointing.

The Model 2217-100-00 is based on a proven voice coil driven, flexure mounted design currently used in demanding aerospace imaging applications. The mirror is driven by voice coil actuators operating under low voltage. A closed loop feedback mechanism provides precision control of the mirror position. The mirror can also be optically mapped to improve accuracy. The stored compensation map is retrieved through the 16bit DSP electronics supporting the system. The electronics communicate through an RS232-C interface.
