Credentialing Program

BICSI established its credential programs to provide a level of assurance to the industry and to consumers that an individual has knowledge in a designated area of information transport systems (ITS) design or installation. Their professional designations are valued internationally and are recognized throughout the ITS industry.

Candidates for BICSI credentials are required to show industry experience and pass rigorous exams based on the content of BICSI manuals. Those who pass must adhere to strict standards of conduct and keep their knowledge current through continuing education.

Design Program

• Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  Established in 1984, RCDDs demonstrate knowledge in the design, integration and implementation of information transport systems (ITS) and related infrastructure components.
• Electronic Safety and Security (ESS)
  Established in 2009, ESS Specialists demonstrate knowledge in electronic safety and security design.
• Network Transport Systems (NTS) Specialist
  Established in 1995 as the LAN Specialist, NTS Specialists demonstrate knowledge in local area networks (LANs) and internetworking design.
• Outside Plant (OSP) Specialist
  Established in 2001, OSP Specialists demonstrate knowledge in OSP design.
• Wireless Design (WD) Specialist
  Established in 2005, WD Specialists demonstrate knowledge in wireless systems and design.

ITS Cabling Installation Program

The goal of BICSI's ITS Cabling Installation Program is to produce highly competent cabling installers in a minimal amount of time and at a reasonable cost. Upon completion of training, program participants should be able to conduct site surveys, pull wire/cable, and terminate and test copper and optical fiber cable to the highest level of specification (currently Category 6). The program offers core skills training, registration examinations, and structured on-the-job training to meet the diverse needs of the telecommunications cabling industry. BICSI's program provides varied levels of increased knowledge and experience:
