Best of all, the R01ZC doesn't sacrifice sensing range for compactness. A 7mm sensing range is standard, with 5mm for the weld field-immune (WFI) version. WFI technology eliminates false switching around the AC or DC magnetic fields generated by electric welding processes. The WFI version also comes standard with an irradiated PVC cable. Irradiation tightly bonds the cable jacket molecules together for superior weld slag and burn-through resistance.
For additional sensor protection in welding applications, available SlagMaster™ coating on the sensing face provides a thermo-mechanical barrier that resists the heat and erosion of weld spatter and allows easier weld slag removal during scheduled maintenance periods.
Component Presence in a Welding Environment
A Tier 1 automotive supplier needed to detect component presence in a welding fixture. The fixture had shallow mounting constraints and required a weld field immune sensor that could withstand exposure to welding debris. The Balluff Flatpack R01ZC with weld field immunity and SlagMaster™ coating was able to fit into the tight mechanical space, maintain output stability during the weld cycle, and resist damage and slag buildup from continuous process exposure.
Mounting Clip Detection on an Interior Assembly
Another Tier 1 automotive supplier had difficulty confirming the presence of a metal mounting clip on an interior trim panel. Initially a standard M18 tubular sensor had been selected to obtain sufficient sensing range, but the fixturing didn't have enough vertical clearance to permit installation. Enter the Balluff Flatpack R01ZC — with 7 mm of sensing range, the clip was detected while the Flatpack fit easily into the constrained space.
