The new AL2400 and AL2800 linear motors extend Beckhoff drive technology product line at both ends of the power spectrum – without the need for liquid cooling. These linear servo motors ideally compliment other Beckhoff drive technology components such as the AX2000 and AX2500 series digital compact servo drives, AM2000 synchronous servomotors and AL2000 series linear servo motors.
The AL2400 linear servo motors were designed to include lower performance ranges. This series includes two motors with a peak force of 120 N or 240 N (1 N = .2248 lbs). The motors are 50 mm wide, have a pole spacing of 24 mm and are particularly suitable for applications with tight installation requirements. The motors reach speeds of up to 8 m/s and are operated with 230 V AC.
In addition, the AL2800 Linear Servomotors expand the Beckhoff high-performance drive product range. For high peak forces up to 9000 N, the AL2800 series offers four motor variants with 2250 N, 4500 N, 6750 N or 9000 N. The motors are 130 mm wide and the pole spacing is 24 mm. The motors reach speeds between 2.5 m/s and 6 m/s and are operated with 400 to 480 V AC.
The aim during the development of these designs was dynamic operation without water cooling - which is needed for other linear motors with similar performance ranges – to simplify design and reduce expense. To accomplish this, the motors were designed with minimum heat transfer resistance.
All three AL motor series have the same pole spacing. The procedure for adjusting the drive amplifiers and adaptation to a linear encoder or MES systems is always the same, saving time during commissioning. In principle, it is possible to operate several primary sections on one magnetic track. This significantly reduces the installation and component costs and opens up application options that would not normally be considered for linear motors.
The primary motor sections contain the coils and the iron core and are ideally suited for use in demanding environments. A stainless cover protects the motor magnet material from mechanical damage and oxidation. Through their compact design, the AL series linear motors with iron core provide high power density and maximum dynamics.
