WET SCRUBBERS

Branch Environmental provides wet scrubber systems for both gas and dust control.

VENTURI SCRUBBERS

Venturi scrubbers are used for applications involving either particulate removal from air or vent gases – or for both simultaneous dust and gas removal.

The open and co-current designs can handle insoluble solids without difficulty. Standard shop designs can handle flows up to 136,000 m³/hr (80,000 cfm). Field erected units can handle even larger flows.

Materials of construction include: Steel, stainless steel, fiberglass, and specialty materials.

Complete systems are available including auxiliary components such as pumps, fans, and controls.

IMPINGEMENT TRAY SCRUBBERS

Impingement tray scrubbers are often used when a gas absorption efficiency higher than that of a Venturi scrubber and some particulate collection are required. This type of scrubber can handle slurry solutions such as lime.

Standard shop designs can handle capacities up to 102,000 m³/hr (60,000 cfm).

Materials of construction include: Steel, stainless steel, fiberglass, and specialty materials.

Complete systems are available including auxiliary components such as pumps, fans, and control.

PACKED TOWER SCRUBBERS

Packed tower scrubbers provide the highest contact and greatest gas absorption capacity. By increasing the contact bed depth, higher and higher efficiencies can be achieved.

Towers are available in counterflow design for the greatest efficiency or crossflow design where head room is limited.

Shop fabricated up to (105,000 m³/hr) 61,000 cfm. Larger sizes are field erected.

Materials of construction include: Steel, stainless steel, fiberglass, and specialty materials.

Complete systems are available including auxiliary components such as pumps, fans, and control.

JET VENTURI SCRUBBERS

Jet Venturi scrubbers are particularly suited to gas flows which have a high turndown requirement. That is, where the gas flows varies. Since the water is pumped under pressure into the system with a high flow, variations in gas flow have very little impact on performance.

Shop capacity up to 102,000 m³/hr (60,000 cfm).

Jet Venturi scrubbers are particularly suited for cases where high concentrations of chemicals are present in the gas.

COMBINATION SYSTEMS

For many applications, a combination of scrubbers is the best answer. For example, a Venturi scrubber could be used to remove most of the dust and solids, followed by a counterflow absorption tower to remove the remaining gases. Coordinated packages of this type are offered wherever the design requirements make such a selection the best choice.

FLUE GAS DESULFURIZATION SYSTEMS (FGD)

Branch Environmental Corp. provides systems using lime, limestone, or other alkaline solutions for removal of sulfur dioxide (S02) from boiler or similar flue gas applications.

Flue gas systems of up to approximately 725,000 m³/hr (425,000 cfm) can be provided.

In the FGD system, multiple spray levels contact the upward flowing flue gas with an alkali solution, typically lime or limestone.

As the sulfur dioxide gas is absorbed, the resulting calcium sulfite solution is carried to the lower portion of the scrubber where it is oxidized and reacted to form calcium sulfate.

Branch Environmental Corp. can provide the complete system including alkali preparation, slaking systems as required, scrubber with oxidation system, and solids removal system.

Materials of construction are typically fiberglass lined steel with stainless steel trim items.

Since these systems are custom designed for individual applications, contact our home office for further details regarding your particular requirements.

NOx SCRUBBING TECHNOLOGIES

While many applications for N0x are better suited to thermal control, such as our selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system, some process applications can be handled using wet scrubber technology.

There are two (2) types of wet scrubbers that are effective. In one approach, a series of chemicals, oxidizing and reducing agents, are used in both scrubbers to react with the N0x. The advantage is relatively low initial cost, but the disadvantage is a high operating cost per quantity of chemical. So choosing this technology for the application depends on the concentration of N0x present in the air and on the operating conditions.

The alternate technology uses a special surface catalyst and a simple caustic solution to absorb and neutralize the N0x. This technology has a higher initial cost but a lower operating cost. It is also very concentration dependent. Please contact the factory for details on your specific application.

INCINERATION SYSTEM SCRUBBERS

Where very high temperatures exist, a combination of components can be used to meet virtually any international emission control standards. The typical control system involves a 1st stage cooler which is often a direct contact quench. We can also provide indirect water cooled quench systems or air/air-heat exchangers as part of the overall package.

Following initial cooling, a combination of Venturi scrubber/packed tower or dry flue gas scrubber systems is used depending on the specific application and on regulation requirements. Control of high temperatures, acid gases, particulate, and dioxins/furans, where necessary, can all be achieved with a single coordinated system.
