Onsite Metrology Services
The need to ensure large components and assemblies are built within design specifications has always presented engineers with difficult choices. Do you move the component to an inspection facility equipped with a large CMM and incur the costs and delays associated with this? Do you inspect using the same machine that manufactured the parts and risk repeating the error? Or do you use optical equipment such as theodolites and accept the limitations of time and accuracy?
Burloak Engineered Solutions is able to resolve all of these compromise positions by offering Laser Tracker services to our customers which allow us to provide leading edge onsite inspection of components and assemblies of up to 230 feet in a single set-up with accuracies that surpass even the best static CMM machines.
To achieve this, Burloak utilizes the FARO Xi Laser Tracker which is equipped with two laser sources (absolute distance measuring and interferometer) along with its own weather station which monitors environmental conditions of both the component and the general area to compensate for errors caused by influences such as air pressure, humidity, temperature.
FARO Tracker Xi Capabilities
Measurement range:
70m without reset
Point to Point Typical Accuracy:
@ 2 - 5m 0.003mm
@ 2 - 10m 0.005mm
@ 2 - 35m - 0.015mm
Distance Measurement Accuracy:
2µm + 0.4µm/m
Where a component needs to be measured in areas that are too difficult for a Tracker to access due to line of sight restrictions or because the feature needs to be accessed with a combination of contact and non contact measurement methods, Burloak offers the Quantum FaroArm.
When the system is integrated with our FARO Xi Tracker in a single measuring system configuration, the Tracker is used to position the arm with extreme accuracy within the part coordinate system. The Quantum is then used to precisely measure features inside the component or in areas where the Tracker may have difficulty gaining access.
By adopting this methodology of integrating the technologies, we are able to deliver maximum accuracy over incredible distance while maintaining a common coordinate system.
The FARO TrackArm is the only system that can seamlessly integrate in this manner and is another clear example of Burloak's superior measuring capabilities which can make even the most demanding requirements possible.
Quantum FaroArm Capabilities
