CSA International can help you determine if your alternative energy technologies meet global safety and performance standards. CSA International provides testing and certification for photovoltaic panels, control, distribution and other components used to turn the sun's rays into usable energy. As Solar Energy quickly becomes a viable and popular form of alternative power generation, let CSA International's team of experts, working in our state-of-the-art Photovoltaic laboratory help accelerate your time to market.
CSA International is one of North America's leading centers for testing and certifying Solar Energy Equipment. Consumers will look at a number of items when buying a photovoltaic module including the external agencies that have tested, qualified, or otherwise approved the module.
In North America, look for a listing from CSA International, an organization which tests and certifies the safety and performance of PV products. In Europe, look for approval by the Commission of the European Communities (CEC). CSA International can evaluate and test products to European Directives Standards (IEC) in cooperation with an EU Notified Body to determine compliance with CE Certification requirements. CSA International regularly qualifies the manufacturer's production units (rather than laboratory samples) to international standards.
The solar module (or photovoltaic component of the system) is the heart of the system. It transforms the sun's rays into usable electrical energy. The solar module (or panel) is comprised of several individual photovoltaic cells connected in series or parallel with a metallic material. The energy produced by a solar module is influenced primarily by the number of cells within a module and how these cells are arranged within the module. Testing and certification of photovoltaic panels are in accordance with CSA ULC/ORD-C1703, UL 1703 and IEC 61730 Safety standards, as well as IEC 61215 and IEC 61646 performance standards.
CSA International certification covers miscellaneous control panels built for industrial and power distribution equipment applications. These component enclosures are intended for the installation of industrial electrical equipment and power distribution equipment where the complete assembly is approved for installation in non-hazardous locations in accordance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and CSA C22.1 Canadian Electrical Code. Testing and certification of Control Panels are in accordance with CSA C22.2 No. 14 and UL 508 standards.
Inverters control and efficiently convert the raw direct current (DC) energy collected by PV panels in a photovoltaic array into alternating current (AC) electricity for use in a home or business, or for resale to the electricity grid. Inverters, converters, charge controllers and output controllers for use in stand alone, utility interactive or a combination of both (multi-mode) systems. Utility Interactive devices operate in parallel with the utility grid. Stand-alone devices are intended to operate independent of the utility grid. Multimode devices can operate as both, either stand-alone (utility independent) or utility interactive devices. Testing and certification of inverters are in accordance with CSA C22.2 No. 107.1 and UL 1741 standards.
CSA International is a leader in testing and certification for a range of electrical equipment and supplies. This means that we are fully qualified to test equipment that incorporates a mixture of technologies. Our approval mark provides an indication that a product has been evaluated by a formal process involving examination, testing and follow-up inspection, and that it complies with applicable national standards for safety and performance.
