Caterpillar Inc. announces the introduction of the G3520C 50 Hz Low Energy Fuel Package Generator Set for use with methane fuels found in landfills, digesters and other low-energy biogas environments. Built on the proven, versatile G3520C platform, this new generator set includes equipment that optimizes the performance of engines in parallel-togrid, continuous-operation applications that use corrosive, low-energy gases.
"Caterpillar has developed a wealth of experience from nearly 25 years of designing generator sets and components specifically for landfills and other low-energy environments," said Richard Thorn, Investor Products Manager for Caterpillar's Electric Power Division. "The G3520C 50 Hz Low Energy Fuel Package Generator Set leverages this expertise in a complete system that delivers high power density combined with efficient, economical operation and low emissions."
The G3520C 50 Hz Low Energy Fuel Package Generator Set offers several features to extend engine life while maximizing performance, including stainless-steel, corrosion-resistant aftercooler cores, 110° C jacket water outlet temperature and crankcase air cleaners. An optional positive-crankcase ventilation system is also available with this package.
Equipped with a Gas Engine Control Module using ADEM™ III electronic controls, the G3520C 50 Hz Low Energy Fuel Package Generator Set allows for full engine control from a single source. The advanced Air/Fuel Ratio Control is designed for use without an oxygen sensor, allowing as high as a 19.2 bar BMEP rating that supplies high power density while meeting NOx emission levels of 500 mg/NM3. An optional level of 250 mg/NM3 is also available through a 54° C separate circuit aftercooler (SCAC) system that can be used with a conventional cooling system arrangement in almost all geographic locations.
The Cat® G3520C 50 Hz Low Energy Fuel Package Generator Set operates at 1500 rpm with a continuous rating of 1966 ekW. Engineered to minimize maintenance costs, this generator set is built on a heavy-duty platform with durable connecting rods, bearings, crankshaft, cylinder block and pumps made for continuous operation. An open combustion chamber design allows the G3520C generator set with the low energy fuel package to operate using low-pressure gas supplies of just 10.5 kPa to 34.5 kPa (1.5 psi to 5.0 psi), which reduces the installation cost of fuel treatment systems often found in low-energy fuel environments.
The Cat G3520C generator set is easily tailored to specific applications with a wide selection of Cat SR4B generators and generator set attachments, including oversized and premium generators. Additional features include exhaust options, circuit breakers, alarm and remote annunciator modules and battery chargers.
