Walnut Shells / Agrashell Products
Composition Materials pioneered Walnut Shell abrasive blasting with the US Navy in the 1950's. Aircraft carriers and submarines were stripped of only their top coats, leaving the expensive undercoats undisturbed. Prior to the introduction of shell blasting, coatings were removed to bare metal requiring the replacement of the undercoat, the vinyl coat, and the top coat. The idea of SELECTIVE COATING REMOVAL with a soft abrasive originated here and saved the Navy both time & money .
With Composition Materials' partner SHELLPRO's acquisition of Agrashell in 2002, they became the largest manufacturer of shell products and Composition Materials became the largest supplier in the world. Their consulting service is available to you regarding the use of Walnut Shell Grit, Plasti-Grit, or other members of their SOFT ABRASIVE family of products.
