WOOD DALE, IL – Danaher Motion introduces the DDS Direct Drive Steering System. This IP67 rated intelligent electric system is designed to replace hydraulic steering systems while reducing complexity and providing significant advantages to vehicle designers, manufacturers and users. These include increased uptime, quieter operation, reduced maintenance and less energy use for a lower overall cost of ownership.

The DDS linear actuator provides maximum stroke to 160 mm (6.3 in.) at up to 75 mm/s (2.95 in/s) at nominal force, with maximum force to 14 kN (3147 lb). The linear shaft is rated for total travel of >600 km (372 miles), or up to 1.6 million full stroke cycles. Resolution of 0.4 mm is attainable.

The system only runs when steering resulting in substantially greater system efficiency when compared with traditional hydraulic steering systems. The flexibility of the system enables free placement of input devices such as steering wheels, multi-turn wheels, joysticks and wire guidance components. The configurable AC drive facilitates easy adjustment of performance parameters, and when used in conjunction with electric traction systems, improves drivability, stability and safety by controlling traction speed based on load and steering angle.
