Product Announcement from DuPont™ Kevlar®
Spun yarns of Kevlar® are made from staple fiber and are typically produced on ring spinning systems. These spun yarns are suitable for weaving or knitting various types of protective fabrics and are primarily used to knit seamless gloves and sleeves. Typically these yarns are used in the cut/thermal protection markets. Kevlar® spun yarns provide improved comfort versus filament yarns. Needled felts of Kevlar® are made from staple fibers and are typically produced on ring spinning systems. These types of felts are mainly used as lining materials for various types of protective ensembles such as gloves, boots and chain saw chaps.
Needled felts of Kevlar® have excellent cut and heat resistance and offer good protection against punctures. Because of their stiffness and shedding of fibers during material handling, needled felts are rarely used as outer fabrics. They are typically used as substrate materials.
