The mechanism to achieve this is analogous to draining a swamp to prevent malaria - this hygienic gasket is made from specially developed compounds which virtually eliminate any open pores in which micro-organisms can live and multiply. Standard gaskets of all types provide an ideal breeding ground.

The gasket was developed in response to increasing concern about air quality in hospitals, schools, public and commercial buildings, etc. It complies with the European standard VDI 6022. The danger in circulating air through buildings is that, with the formation of condensate in the HVAC systems pathogenic germs can accumulate, breed, and be released into the air.

The Gasket material is a compound of EPDM and therefore is very resistant to UV light which is used in some AHUs to sterilize the air. In quantity this special is no more expensive than standard gasketing.
