In just one example, one of the world's leading steel manufacturers needed to monitor the temperature of molten steel as they processed it into many products, such as re-bar, in efforts to improve their manufacturing operations. The solution was required to operate in harsh and dirty conditions and around existing equipment. In the process, several roller assemblies progressively step down the cross-sectional geometry until the desired shape and dimension of the steel bars are achieved. Each roller assembly contains two steel rollers weighing several thousand pounds.

Electrochem's TemperatureSensorOne (TS1) was custom mounted, reaching into the core of the roller, and the sensors stream data wirelessly to the BS1 Base Station. The TS1's unique wireless capability along with rugged and environmentally sealed construction is an ideal fit for the customer and an industry-first solution for this application. The customer improves the quality of their product using the new temperature data, which is analyzed with custom designed software to manage operations processes instantaneously.
