ELECTRONE 720 POE - Mini Terminal Keypad uses Ethernet Connection
The new 720 series of terminals offer a wide range of options including the ability to connect directly onto an INTRANET or the INTERNET via a configurable RJ45 connection.
This mini terminal keypad uses Ethernet connection to transmit and receive information over TCP/IP protocol. Capable of functioning as a standalone remote interface terminal which is controlled from the host with bi-directional communication
Ethernet Overview
Ethernet technology is the most widespread wired local area network (LAN) in use. Ethernet devices communicate with each other by sending data Packets. Each device has its own unique 48-bit MAC address which is used to identify the source or destination of each Packet.
TCP/IP Overview
TCP Protocol is built on top of the IP Protocol which is built on top of the Ethernet. TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol) is the set of rules for communicating that structures all communication on the Internet.
1. Internet Protocol (IP) covers aspects like IP addresses and routing of packets of data from one place to another; however, it does not cover the correctness or assurance of data delivery.
2. Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) covers all the rules to ensure a reliable connection which ensures data correction and delivery.
POE Overview
Power over Ethernet or PoE technology describes a system to transfer electrical power, along with data, to remote devices over standard twisted-pair cable in an Ethernet network. It does not require modification of existing Ethernet cabling infrastructure.
Up to 30W of DC power (steady 50VDC and 600mA where the power is provided) flows to each device. However, PoE negotiates arbitrary voltages as low as 1-3V, similar to batteries, and constantly monitors the power, giving PoE devices extreme flexibility to respond to power events. Available power at the PD connector is typically 24.6W given resistance of the cable and injector conversion efficiency.
There are several general terms used to describe this feature. The terms power over Ethernet (PoE), power over LAN (PoL), and inline power are synonymous terms used to describe the powering of attached devices via Ethernet ports
