The sensor uses Positek's novel inductive technology, PIPS®, with simple inductive coils and advanced ASIC electronic technology. It should be used with a galvanically isolated barrier and from the barrier a range of transmission options are available.

The sensor provides a linear output characteristic with displacement and has several advantages over an LVDT or potentiometer. It is short, accurate, very robust and simple to use.

The sensor uses a 5V supply and provides an output that is ratiometric with supply variations.

Overall performance is outstanding over a wide temperature range and the output has very good frequency response. Full EMC protection is built in. The sensors have a rugged stainless steel body and push rod. The rod is spring loaded. The body is mounted by the ½" UNF threaded end giving users flexibility mounting the sensor, two locknuts are supplied. Typical applications include industrial position gauging. The sensors are sealed to IP67. Special sensor designs can be produced to suit customer specifications.
