EtherNet/IP Absolute Rotary Encoder

POSITAL OCD absolute rotary encoders offer excellent accuracy, reliability and versatility, plus a full-function EtherNet/IP interface.

OCD encoders have 16-bit resolution (65,536 steps per turn) and optional multi-turn capability (up to 16,384 revolutions). They fit in almost any environment with an operating temperature range of -40 to +85 °C and environmental protection up to IP 67.

The OCD encoder with an EtherNet/IP interface is the first on the market with full ODVA certification. They are programmable according to CIP specifications and work with a number of Rockwell and Schneider PLC's. Installation is simplified by an integrated switch (to support daisy-chain or device-level ring (DLR) wiring configurations) and six diagnostic LED's. Signal and power connections are via robust M12 connectors to ensure reliability in harsh factory or plant environments. The IP address of the devices is programmable, while the internal processor supports a bootloader to simplify firmware upgrades.

OPTOCODE encoders are highly modular and a wide range of options are available to meet special requirements. This includes models with solid and hollow shafts, stainless steel casings and several levels of environmental protection (up to IP 67). Explosion-proof casings that meet UL and ATEX standards are also available. Thanks to their robust construction and un-breakable plastic code disk, OCD encoders are capable of withstanding shock loads up to 100 g.

Optical encoders provide very high resolution and accuracy along with excellent dynamic response and are suitable for use in areas with high magnetic fields. Since the rotation of the code discs is an entirely mechanical process, there is no risk of losing track of their absolute position due to loss of instrument power. No backup batteries are required!
