POSITAL's new OPTOCODE (OCD) is the first EtherNet/IP enabled absolute rotary encoder on the market. ODVA's Ethernet/IP is the most developed and complete Ethernet solution for manufacturing automation available. Rockwell Automation and a number of leading control manufacturers began promoting EtherNet/IP interfaces in 2001. The OCD encoder from POSITAL is the first to take advantage of this technology and it is compatible with any PLC having this interface. The introduction of this product expands the POSITAL's wide range of interfaces. This diversity provides a suitable encoder line for almost any application.

Another outstanding characteristic of the OCD models is their very compact design. Now applications with limited installation space are made easy. The units, which have an industry standard diameter of 58 mm and a length of 80mm, do not require a connection cap. Similar to DeviceNet encoders, EDS files ensure easy configuration. However, these encoders no longer require terminating resistors, switches for address allocation and special Baud rate adjustments.

The models feature an Ertec200-based platform and reach impressive cycle times of less than 10 ms. The units also feature an integrated electronic switch, which facilitates wiring and allows users to save on expenses for external hardware and makes installation easy. Further equipment includes two M12 connections for data transfer, one M12 connection for voltage supply, and six LEDs for bus diagnosis. The IP67 protected devices can be used in rugged industrial environments.

Like all OPTOCODE encoders, the EtherNet/IP models use a proven opto-electronic scanning method to record position values. The single-turn sensor provides a resolution of 16 bit per revolution. Additionally, a maximum of 16,384 revolutions (14 bit) can be registered in multi-turn mode, thereby covering a measuring range of 30 bit. All OCD encoders operate without backup batteries and instantly provide current absolute position values without referencing, even after power failure
