Inclinometers allow an easy and efficient way to measure position values without direct coupling to the actuators. This fact, and a high protection class allow them to be placed almost anywhere, providing more flexibility for design engineers. Inclinometers also allow simultaneous measurement of two axes with a single sensor, which can also reduce the design and engineering effort compared to other sensor systems.

POSITAL presents a new generation of compact, biaxial inclinometers with a measuring range of 5°, 15° or 30°. Due to their IP 67 rated metal casing and overall robust design, the sensors are not affected by vibration or shock and operate smoothly even in rough environmental conditions. Exemplary applications include construction machinery, cranes or working platforms. A powerful microcontroller ensures accurate processing of all readings: internally, the incline is measured 100 times per second, filtered and put out at a rate of 10 readings per second. High internal processing speed and customizable filters qualify the sensors for a wide range of automation applications. For easy installation, especially on non-planar surfaces, the sensors feature a three-point support on the casing which offers a safe hold and thereby ensures reliable measuring. The sensors come equipped with a RS232- interface combined with an analog output for current, voltage or pulse-width modulation, or 2 switching outputs emulating tilt switches. CANopen versions are also available.

The sensing principle is based on electrolytic fluid housed in two cells (one for each axis). As the inclinometer moves with respect to the fluid level 'pads' within the cell give relative capacitance. Thus dual-axis angle measurements are obtained.
