The OPTIPACT sensor is compact and economical. It is suited for continuous material measurement, or as a drop-in replacement for more expensive linear encoders. This is the only 2-dimensional non-contact velocity sensor on the market. This technology allows for the correction of out-of-plane movement during movement. For example it can measure rotational as well as translational motion simultaneously.
The OPTIPACT sensor really shines in applications where the use of an incremental encoder + code wheel would present problems. This would include situations where slippage can occur, or if there is a risk of contamination as in food or medical applications. OPTIPACT sensors are also an excellent choice for measuring the motion of delicate materials that could suffer surface damage from code-wheels.
Due to its ability to register two-dimensional movement, its compact design and its highly competitive prices OPTIPACT sensors are highly attractive for new fields of application. Two types are available: High Speed and High Resolution.
