Fiberguide Industries, Inc. - Plastic Coated Silica/Silica (Low OH)

See Product Details

When looking for a high quality fiber with superior transmission and a numerical aperture (N.A.) of 0.22 for efficient light coupling, the Anhydroguide™ AFS is the fiber of choice. The Anhydroguide™ fiber is drawn from preforms manufactured by the Plasma Outside Deposition (POD) process. Rods of extremely pure synthetic fused silica are coated with fluorine doped silica layers to obtain preforms with step-like refractive index profiles. Plasma torches prepare the reaction compounds from SiCl4, O2, and a fluorine containing gas. Strong thermal gradients combined with the temperature plasma lead to chemical deposition conditions, which allow very high fluorine concentrations to be incorporated in the fused silica network. Refractive index differences of 0.27 corresponding to numerical apertures in excess of 0.28 have been realized with undoped core rods.

FEATURES

• Low index fluorine-doped cladding provides superior visible to infrared transmission as compared to plastic clad fiber and borosilica clad fiber design.

• Good choice for a broad range of applications from the visible (VIS) to infrared (IR).

• Excellent for Holmium (2100nm) and Erbium (1540nm) laser delivery.

• Specialty coatings available for extreme temperature (-269°C to +700°C), high vacuum and harsh chemical environments (see Gold/Aluminum data sheets).

• Laser damage resistant construction transmits 1.3kW/mm2 CW at 1060nm; up to 10 Joules, pulsed (Special end preparation may be required).

• High core to clad ratios available for high efficiency bundles (see Bundle data sheets).

• Core diameters up to 1500μm for Nylon and Tefzel™ secondary buffers.

• Sterilizable - ETO, steam, e-beam, gamma radiation.

• Radiation resistant.

• All dielectric, non-magnetic construction.

• Polyimide buffer resists most organics, solvents and acid.

• 12μm to 15μm thick Polyimide buffer allows for the manufacture of high packing efficiency arrays and bundles(please see Fiber Optic Assembly data sheet).

• Polyimide buffer is heat sterilizable (autoclave).

Note:

If the buffer/jacket material has a lower refractive index than the cladding, as is the case for silicone coated silica/silica fibers, then optical energy can be guided within the cladding. The high refractive index of Polyimide and Acrylate effectively strips out these "cladding modes".
