Filtroil does not remove oil additives (molecular compounds smaller than even our ability to filter). These additives for the most part, are known as "sacrificial" additives, and due to their design they do deteriorate. Over time, additives sacrifice themselves in order to protect the hydrocarbons in the base oil. Replenishing these additives is normally accomplished by changing out the oil system entirely, adding new replacement oil, or pouring a compatible additive directly into the tank. Our Additive Package provides a convenient and effective method of keeping your oil system in excellent condition, and is formulated to be universally compatible with all industrial hydraulic oils.

Industrial Hydraulic Oil Additives

Industrial hydraulic oils normally contain a small amount of oil additive in the range of .5 to 1.0% by weight, (about a 1/2 gallon) in a 100-gallon system. As a reference, engine oils, which are subjected to much higher operating temperatures, contain 25 to 30% by weight. The primary ingredient representing approximately 60 to 70% of the additive package in most industrial hydraulic oils is a compound known as Zinc Dithiophosphate (ZDP). This additive reduces the wear rate of the hydraulic oil.

Smaller amounts of other compounds provide oxidation protection, detergent characteristics, reduce foaming, and prevent rust. Filtroil's Additive Package is specifically formulated by a major additive manufacturer and has all of these attributes. MSDS provided upon request.
