The MAXIFEED UTFS™ is a second-generation underthrow fuel distributor designed to spread fuel that is smaller in average size and higher in moisture content than industry recommended guidelines. Coupled with the Maintenance Frame Seal, customers have a fuel distributor that provides fuel and maintenance flexibility resulting in cost savings.
ALSTOM has roots in the design and supply of stoker equipment reaching back to the late 1800's. It has supplied systems, component upgrades, and replacement parts for coal, wood, and refuse-fired stokers to industrial, pulp & paper and utility customers.
Application and Operation
The MAXIFEED UTFS™ (Underthrow Frame Seal) Fuel Distributor is applicable to virtually all stoker-fired boilers as a replacement for original overthrow and underthrow and pneumatic transport resulting in effective distribution of fuels that consist of greater fines than industry recommended guidelines.
Traditional overthrow fuel distributors experience downgraded performance when fuel sizing varies to either extreme from recommended guidelines for stoker coals.
Utilizing fuel with a larger average size distribution results in unpredictable distribution over the grate.
Spreading fuel with a smaller average size distribution results in the rotor blade's inability to impart the fuel away from the discharge of the fuel distributor. This often results in overheating and slagging at the rotor discharge.
The MAXIFEED UTFS™ distributor utilizes hinged rotor blades to impart momentum to the larger sized fuel particles. The rotor housing is angularly adjustable to optimize the release point to more accurately tune the trajectory of the fuel into the furnace.
Likewise, the pneumatic assist nozzles are part of the adjustable rotor housing and maintain the same angle as the fuel being released by the rotor blades. When compared with the overthrow distribution, the lower trajectory of the MAXIFEED UTFS™ Fuel Distributor combined with the distributor's fuel size flexibility results in improved grate distribution and fuel combustion efficiency.
