GM Nameplate offers a wide variety of membrane switch options including tactile polydome, tactile metal dome and non-tactile keypads. Membranes are an economical switch alternative. Tooling costs are low since the entire construction is fabricated with steel rule dies. Different custom graphic overlays can be used with a single circuit design, or a relegendable overlay can be used, further lowering the overall cost of design and manufacture.
Membrane circuitry is printed with silver conductive ink on facing sides of polyester layers. Pressure sensitive acrylic adhesive between each layer environmentally seals the construction. The tail can be finished with terminal pads, solder tabs, male posts or connector sockets for easy interface with mating circuitry or components.
The overlay can be embossed for decorative effect or to define button areas. Clear or colored filter windows are added for readout displays or other lighting components. The overlay can be hardcoated in a variety of textures to protect from chemical attack and abrasion. When desired, tactile response can be provided through the addition of metal or polyester domes located below the overlay.
A membrane can be backlit by conventional light sources, or selectively or full face-lit with an electroluminscent or fiber optic panel, which becomes part of the laminated construction.
Printed or fabricated ESD or EMI shielding can also be integrated into the membrane assembly with the mothod of grounding determined by your requirements.
