High Speed Solvent Evaporation

High Speed Solvent Evaporation

This system is designed to rapidly evaporate/concentrate solvents by heating both the sample bottom and the incoming nitrogen. Each position is furnished with an individual orifice or needle for the best possible delivery of gas. The pulsing feature that is selectable allows a film of solvent to be thrown on the sidewall; then the vortex collapses. Next the vortex again is created and the process continues until the concentration level is achieved providing the quickest method of evaporation.

DPM FOR EPA VIALS WITH EVAPORATOR Testing has been conducted with water, dichloromethane (DCM), acetone, hexane as well as mixtures of DCM with acetone and hexane with acetone.

Here are some examples:

EPA tall form vials (24) with 50 mL each (2400 mL total volume of solvent) of the following solvents. In this case they were evaporated to dryness (no solvent left in bottles)

Water 3.5 hours Acetone 1.5 hours DCM 65 min

These were done with moderately low temperature on the block and manifold (60C block and 60C manifold set points)

Additional testing was done to determine faster evaporations with higher temperatures set on the block and manifold. For example, 12 samples of 50 mL each of DCM/acetone (1:1) evaporated to dryness in 17 minutes with setting of 80C block and 80C manifold set points. Testing also showed a good recovery of semi-volatile compounds when we took the volume to 2 mL.
