These were the requirements articulated by the manufacturer of automated smoke curtains that seal off elevator doors in the event of a fire, to prevent smoke from traveling through the elevator shafts - thus facilitating safer evacuation and rescue.

Key specifications determined were:

The Groschopp solution resulted from extensive development work with the OEM. This included innovative use of molded composite plastic to create a custom right angle gearbox that yields high quality but but that meets customer cost objectives. The Permanent Magnet DC (PMDC) motor solution provides high-performance in this intermittent duty application.
