Insertion Probe for Extreme Service

Insertion Probe for Extreme Service

For applications where excursions above 300 ºC are expected, or where frequent temperature cycling is part of normal operation, Guided Wave supplies the Axiom Analytical (Irvine, California, USA) FCT-850 insertion probe. Batch reactors, as shown here in a polymer plant, are key candidates for this probe.

Key Features:

  • Extreme chemical resistance
  • Resistant to extreme temperatures and thermal shock
  • NEMA-4 classification standard
  • Standard pressure ratings to 300 bar
  • Single-pass of light through the optical "gap"
  • Welded-pressure seal
  • Purgeable counduit housing
  • Capable of housing internal RTD sensor for sample temperature

This probe was developed to provide maximum long term reliability under the extreme conditions of high temperature, thermal shock, and aggressive chemistries encountered in many on-line process applications. The key element of this design is a proprietary (U.S. Patent 5,418,615 and patent pending) sealing technique involving a direct sapphire to Hastelloy welded pressure seal. A high degree of chemical resistance is assured by the fact that the only materials in contact with the process are sapphire, Hastelloy and a thin flash of either gold or nickel (application dependant). The capability to withstand extreme temperature cycling is provided by the Hasteloy seal, which is compressed at high pressure prior to welding. Service to 400°C is available with option FP8E.

FPT-850 probes contain an integral conduit termination housing which includes provisions for sealing the fiber-optic cables into a conduit and for accessing and removing the fiber-optic connections without breaking the seal.
