IRD Glass manufactures several different components used in the medical device field, including ceramic probe types with conductive ink traces, ultra-precision shaped slides for non-invasive testing, optical components for endoscopes and test equipment, among others. They make many different sizes and shapes of technical glass, ceramic and optical components using many varied and unique grinding techniques to hold precise dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.

Some of the other items IRD specializes in are many different sizes of glass tubes and pedestals with the ends lapped and polished to better than .000004" flat on the ends. They also manufacture precision polished and ground glass rods for a variety of uses. Several companies purchase custom diffusing and transmissive inspection stages from them, including stages with grooves and through holes for vacuum applications. They even manufacture and certify ultra-precision spacers and glass fixtures made from low expansion materials such as Schott Zerodur, Corning ULE, ceramics and other glass types. IRD makes precision substrates with a variety of surface finishes using many different materials, including Zerodur, nBk-7, nSK-5, Pyrex, ceramic, and many other specialty materials.

The components are manufactured on a variety of equipment while quality is maintained using a series of in-process control inspections on any of several specially designed systems. They hold tight flatness, parallelism, and dimensional tolerances; one of the most demanding products has been made daily over the past 18 years for ring laser gyro applications in the aerospace industry.
