Vapor Hoods
Pannevis RT filters from Larox working at elevated temperature or with hazardous vapours can be fitted with a vapour hood that encloses the upper parts of the filter including the process areas. Hoods can extend over a partial length of the filter or the total filter length including the ends. Standard hoods include condensate trays that collect any condensed vapours inside the hood and return them to the process area. Standard materials included SS or PP with either flexible translucent PVC side flaps or solid PMMA windows. The vapour hoods are normally operated with an exhaust system to ensure a positive airflow into the hood from outside.
Fume Tight Filters
For processes that require a greater level of containment than can be provided with a vapour hood, the RT-FT fume tight designs place the filter in an enclosure that contains the total process. All of the standard RT filter operations can still be carried out on an RT-FT, including co-current and counter-current washing, hot gas drying, and mechanical dewatering. The RT-FT filters operate with either a slight overpressure or under pressure in the housing.
The pressure in the housing is normally maintained at a few mm of water gauge either above or below atmospheric. For sanitary processes and other applications where it is desirable to prevent ingress of the surrounding atmosphere, the internal pressure is maintained above atmospheric. For toxic or hazardous processes, where escape of vapours is to be avoided, an under pressure inside the housing is preferred. Larox can offer several designs of Pannevis fume tight filter depending on the application.
Basic Fume Tight Filter
The simplest version of the RT-FT involves placing the standard Pannevis RT filter inside an enclosure that surrounds the filter. All mechanical parts of the filter are located inside the housing therefore entry is required for any maintenance on the filter. For this reason the housing is provided with full height sliding doors to give easy access at all filter parts and there is clearance around the filter inside the housing.
Sanitary Fume Tight Filters
The sanitary RT-FT filter is based on the Pannevis RT-GT gas tight filter and combines sanitary design with ease of cleaning. The floor and roof of the housing are rounded eliminating dead spots, while the sides are solid side panels with manholes. The drive unit, bearings, air cylinders and sensors are located outside the housing eliminating the need to enter the housing for normal maintenance. Clean-in-place (CIP) is available to cover either the upper part of the filter above the vacuum tray or the total housing. This design is proven for FDA and Dairy 3A applications.
Corrosion Resistant Fume Tight Filters
Based on the sanitary housing design, the corrosion resistant RT-FT has a Derakane® housing with primarily plastic components inside the housing. Where mechanical reasons prevent the use of plastic, either a corrosion resistant alloy such as Hastelloy or Titanium, or steel coated with corrosion resistant materials is used. As with the sanitary design most of the mechanical components are located outside of the housing.
