Manufacturing soda ash by the Solvay or Hou process produces a large amount of waste sludge. The main part of the sludge is calcium carbonate. For every ton of soda ash produced approximately 10m3 of post-distillation waste material is produced containing 200 – 300 kg of solid material. This can add up to a significant tonnage and can present a serious environmental problem.
The Larox C48 Series automatic pressure filter (see separate product announcement for details), is now proven in multiple installations for the soda ash waste solids isolation and recovery and enables the customer to:
• Meet the environmental legislation demands
• Add value to the waste, potentially turn it into product
• Maintain the plant's position in an increasingly competitive environment
• Have reliable operation and service
It also provides:
• Constant process results in terms of washing, moisture content and capacity
• Minimal wash water consumption
• Easy bulk handling
• Fully automatic operation, including cake discharge
• Stable and reliable plant operation
Typical results with the Larox C Series filters produce filter cakes from 10 - 35 mm thick with cake moistures from 40 - 55 % w/w and, when washing is required, chloride content in the range of 0.5 - 2.0%
