Moxies are a family of NTC thermistors, variable resistance thermal sensors having a highly specific "transition region." Within this transition region the devices typically exhibit a negative temperature coefficient ranging from 40% per °C to 200% per °C. The resulting instantaneous drop in resistance can be described as a knee of the curve, where the R value changes from approximately 100K-300K ohms to 100-300 ohms within a 2°C temperature range.

CANTHERM'S Moxies are designed to provide a signal without resorting to expensive electronics. The Moxie acts like a thermal switch and changes resistance values abruptly at a specific temperature. When the target temperature is reached there is a rapid drop in resistance, similar to the closure of a switch, and it is easy to monitor when inserted as one component in a voltage divider.

Below the transition region they exhibit a linear "thermistor" characteristic of -2 to -4%/°C.

Moxies are supplied in a 2 wire TO-18 transistor package. Optional mounting brackets (B3 & C3) and extended lead wires are also available.
