Through chemical analysis, we will verify that an anchor alloy meets specification requirements, discover the presence of contaminants and products of reactions. The mechanical properties of metals are often analyzed after a failure to determine if a failed component met all of the design specifications. Tensile and hardness testing are commonly performed. Our skilled metallurgists also utilize advanced analytical techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and our electron microprobe to obtain qualitative and quantitative information about the characteristics of a metal or a failure. These tools are utilized to examine and determine the causes of features such as fracture surfaces, pits, weld failures, and evidence of corrosion, erosion and wear.
Our refractory analysis capabilities include physical, chemical and mineralogical testing for a broad spectrum of applications including both fired and unfired refractory materials. We perform a wide range of BSEN, ISO and ASTM test methods, such as Hot Modulus of Rupture, Thermal Conductivity and Expansion, Creep Testing, Vapor Attack Testing, and Exudation and Stoning Potential testing and analysis. We also work with clients to devise custom tests to meet their needs. Through combinations of thermal, stress and chemical exposure, we can closely simulate service conditions to help optimize refractory selection.
