MTE Motor Protection Filters are designed to protect AC motors from the destructive affects of long cable runs between an inverter and motor.
MTE Series A Sine-Wave Filters Series A Sine-Wave Filters provide a 5% THVD sine-wave output voltage for motor and cable protection when driven from PWM inverters with 2-8 K Hertz switching frequencies. These filters eliminate the problem of motor / cable insulation failures plus reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI/RFI) by eliminating the high dV/dT from long-lead runs where the distance between the motor and the inverter is up to 15,000 feet. In addition, MTE Series A Sine Wave Filters eliminate motor audible noise and heat attributed to control by PWM inverter drives. Without a Sine-Wave filter VFD long-lead cable voltages will exceed 900 volts RMS.
Series A dV/dT filters Series A dV/dT filters are also designed to protect AC motors from the destructive effects of long-lead peak voltages. Depending on the turn-on time of the power semiconductors used in the inverter, size of the motor and cable length, these peak voltages can be extreme. Cable lengths as short as eight feet can result in motor peak voltages that exceed the rating of the motor's insulation system. Using the filter guarantees the motor terminal voltage will not exceed a 1.5 drive bus voltage up to a distance of 1000 feet between the drive and motor. In specific applications, the filter has provided excellent performance with cable runs up to 3000 feet.
5 KHz LC filters This is a classic dual element filter designed for application where the inverter frequency will not be set below 5 KHz. This filter is designed to convert a PWM inverter output wave form into a sinusoidal wave form. As a result these filters eliminate the issue of motor terminal over voltage and damaging dv/dt associated with long cable lengths between the motor and the inverter.
