Many dry materials are extremely fragile, being either crystalline or aggregated materials such as freeze-dried milk or coffee. If they are relatively free-flowing, they can frequently be best measured using a free-fall feeder which simply lets the sample flow through the laser beam of the sizer with no additional dispersive action being applied. A free fall feeder is also very useful for the measurement of relatively expensive free-flowing materials which must be recovered after measurement.

- Magnetically stirred cell - Many laboratories need to measure the particle size of their samples in dispersants other than water and need to minimize the solvent usage as much as possible. In some cases, sample materials are not plentiful and a smaller volume sample dispersion unit is a practical choice to minimize sample consumption. (Not suitable for heavy, dense or magnetic materials.)
- QS Small volume sample dispersion unit - Many laboratories need to measure their samples in dispersants other than water and need to minimize the solvent usage as much as possible. In some cases, sample materials are not plentiful and a smaller volume sample dispersion unit is a sensible choice to minimize sample consumption while retaining the benefits of having a pumped and stirred recirculation system.
- Qspec Large volume sample dispersion unit - Many materials need to be measured as wet dispersions. Typical of these are materials that are used or produced wet in the manufacturing process. This unit is designed to create a suspension of particles in water or other liquid media which can be optimized through the use of ultrasonics and surfactants where necessary.
- Qspec MU sample dispersion unit - In the mineral, chemical, metal powder refining and cement industries, measurements of larger sample volumes are often most appropriate for QC of the manufacturing process and finished product. The large capacity of this unit makes it ideally suited to the measurement of such samples as well as larger materials having broad size distributions.
- High pressure cell - The high pressure dispersion unit for the Mastersizer S was developed in co-operation with one of the word's leaders in the production of MDI's to maintain the propellant gas in its liquid phase and allow the particles in an MDI canister to be measured under conditions that closely replicated the conditions inside the canister.
