Master Bond Inc., Hackensack, N.J. manufactures customer specified UV curing adhesives. In a recent custom formulation they developed a new single component, high strength UV curable adhesive called UV18Med. This compound features high chemical resistance, superior electrical insulation properties and flexibility. UV18Med forms tough, durable bonds and adheres well to a wide range of similar and dissimilar substrates. Shrinkage upon cure is substantially less than conventional UV cured systems. Service operating temperature range is from -80°F to +250°F. Master Bond UV18Med is USP Class VI certified and is recommended for medical applications.

UV18Med is not oxygen inhibited and exhibits a desirably fast cure rate even in the presence of air. With various commercial UV lamps UV18Med cures in less than 1 minute. A conventional 200 watt/inch medium pressure mercury lamp is recommended. Even with low intensity UV sources, cures can be obtained quickly.

UV18Med has a low viscosity of 1,800-2,000 cps and is easy to apply. Resistance to water, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, acetone, MEK and other aggressive solvents is excellent. It also exhibits outstanding resistance to water vapor permeability. It has a Shore D hardness of 55-60 and a tensile strength of >950 psi.

Master Bond UV18Med is available for use in ½ pint, pint, quart, gallon and 5 gallon containers. For ease of application it is available in convenient syringe applicators.
