Instrument engineers at municipal water/wastewater facilities and industrial process plants with wastewater treatment operations will find the new Ultra Mag® Flow Meter from McCrometer's features a streamlined advanced sensor design that makes it lighter and easy to install--yet durable and economical.

With its non-invasive, no-moving parts flow sensing technology, the Ultra Mag inline flow meter delivers exceptional flow measurement accuracy of +0.5 percent in water effluent with repeatability of +0.1 percent. The Ultra Mag measures liquid flow in 2 to 48 inch lines from 0.2 to 49 fps at pressures of up to 300 psi, depending on the selected pipe size and flange configuration.

The Ultra Mag operates in high temperatures up to 170°F, is available with AWWA, ANSI, and DIN flanges, and can be ordered with custom lay lengths eliminating the need for costly re-piping. ISO standard magmeter lengths are also available. Manufactured with 316 Stainless Steel, the Ultra Mag's electrodes are self-cleaning for long service and virtually no maintenance.

The advanced Ultra Mag's unique UltraLiner™ technology coupled with the signal converter gives users an exceptionally accurate, reliable and durable instrument. Municipal process and industrial plant engineers who have in the past had to trade-off accuracy in harsh environments against low maintenance and long-life, will find the Ultra Mag to be the ideal solution—especially in wastewater effluent, as well as in sludge and slurries.

The UltraLiner™ is an NSF-approved epoxy with a long history of reliability and is more robust than inserted liners. Debris and solids will not clog the line or cause excessive wear to the Ultra Mag, thanks to its non-intrusive sensing element that nearly eliminates maintenance requirements. Combined with the superior abrasion and corrosion resistance of McCrometer's fusion-bonded epoxy UltraLiner, this magmeter is a superior choice for installation in hard-to-reach areas and applications where maintenance is awkward or especially time-consuming.

To sense flow, the Ultra Mag relies on two compact, high-density magnetic coils placed within the pipe outer wall to generate an electromagnetic field inside the pipe. As conductive liquid flows through the pipe, a voltage is created, which is measured by electrodes inserted through the flowmeter liner into the flow stream. The voltage is then converted to a flow rate reading by the Ultra Mag's signal converter, which includes a digital read-out. Electormagnetic measurement gives magmeters a wide rangeability - up to 245:1 and allows for bidirectional flow readings. As the voltage generated is related only to the speed of the fluid, measurement is unaffected by changes in fluid density and viscosity - making for a very stable and reliable flow meter.

The highest possible flow measurement accuracy is provided by the Ultra Mag's signal converter. Advanced electronic components within the signal converter produce an exceptionally high signal-to-noise ratio for high measurement accuracy even in slurries or sludge under variable flow conditions. The Ultra Mag provides worry-free flow measurement in situations where custom lengths, high accuracy, reliability and low maintenance are critical.
