Carbon dioxide is a common cause of the high conductivity. Membrane contactors remove carbon dioxide from water, typically upstream, without a chemical pH adjustment, allowing EDI and CDI systems produce higher quality water. Another postive side-effect is that Silica and Boron outlets in the EDI/CDI units improve CO2 is not present.
Additionally, commin issue is that disolved carbon dioxde in the water used in ion exhange beds places an excess load the beds requiring more frequent chemical regeneration. By using Liqui-Cel® Contactors to removal the CO2 in front of ion exchange beds, manufacturers see a significant cost savings and environmental benefit versus using chemicals for bed regeneration.
