Fluorinated solvents like Vertrel® offer unique properties for precision cleaning, defluxing, degreasing and carrier fluid applications. These characteristics include:
- Versatility These cleaners remove many types of contamination, such as fingerprints, oils, grease and fluxes, which means one tool can be used in almost every cleaning application
- Easy to Use Vertrel® is easy to re-use and recycle, which protects the environment and keeps costs down.
- Effective These solvents are 30-50% heavier than water and very ultra-low surface tension, which means they are excellent choices for cleaning difficult shapes and designs
- Energy Efficient Vertrel® fluids boil at low temperatures (just above room temperature), which means they use very little electricity, especially when compared to aqueous cleaners
- Safety Most of the Vertrel® formulations are nonflammable, and they all have generally good to excellent toxicity ratings
- Easy Handling Since they have essentially no aroma and are nonflammable, they are very easy to handle, ship and store. They are often used in vapor degreasers, which are smaller, simpler, less expensive and more reliable than aqueous-based cleaning machines
- Environmental Vertrel® solvents are completely ozone-safe, low VOC in many instances, and have low Global Warming factors
- Excellent Materials Compatibility Depending upon the formulation, the Vertrel® solvents can be used on any metal, plastic, glass, ceramic, or other nonporous surface
In short, when compared to alcohols, HCFC-141b, CFCs, perflourocarbons, n-propyl bromide and dozens of other possible solvent contenders, the optimal, most cost-effective choice with the LOWEST total cost per-part-cleaned is Vertrel®.
Vertrel® solvents are packaged by Micro Care in aerosol, one-gallon (3.8 liter) minipails, 5-gallon (19 liter) pails, and 55-gallon (200 liter) drums. Other packaging also is available, such as double-filtered, prerinsed glass bottles for lab applications.
