The NDT Technologies PRO Series Profilers provide the user with the capability to not only extract a real time profile from a part that represents its dimensions, but also make multiple measurements of two or more part dimensions, simultaneously. This unique capability substantially decreases overall inspection time while inherently simplifying the task of fixturing the part for multiple inspections.

Since the PRO Series Profilers can include multiple inspection channels, when it is necessary to make multiple contact or noncontact eddy current inspections on a part surface or a hole, the Profiling Probe is designed so that there are multiple inspection capabilities built within it. An example of one such probe is represented in the two accompanying figure. In this example, the diameter of a hole is measured with the Ball Runner probe feature while the depth of that same hole is measured with the stylus feature.

During the inspection of any part feature, the most difficult exercise is to properly fixture the part in preparation for the inspection. Once the part has been properly fixtured, however, the inspection or gauge measurement of that part is relatively straight forward. When multiple inspection functions are integrated into one probe, and that probe is used to inspect multiple part features, the part need only be fixtured once. This inherently decreases overall fixturing complexity while also decreasing fixturing related costs.

The NDT Technologies PRO Series Profilers make all measurements in real time, so that when the probe has been withdrawn from the part, the pass/fail decision on that hole or feature has already been made. Typically, the profiling probes are moved through or over the surface of the part at a rate of about three (3) inches per second. As the gauge measurements are extracted from the part, they are recorded by the system with respect to the position of the probe that is referenced to a predefined part datum. In fact, the system is capable of recording probe position with respect to two part axes so that the information that is recorded can be viewed as a surface rather than just line. This feature is very powerful as it subsequently allows the surface measurements to be compared directly to three dimensional drawings created from programs like Solid Works.
