Nelson Stud Welding produces a line of hydraulic oil ports for industrial cylinders that results in a leak proof connection at a very low cost. Because arcing time is so short, there is no distortion to the inside (backside) of the tube.
Stud Welded Ports are ideally suited for cylinder manufactures with applications in the material handling, agricultural, off-road equipment, construction and other industrial markets.
Stud welding melts the entire cross section of the port stud and joins it to the tube surface in less than one second. Because the arcing time is so short, distortion on the inside is non-existent, thereby eliminating costly honing or other repair procedures. And because the full cross section of the stud is joined to the tube, leaks are eliminated and the cost for leak testing too is eliminated. The weld is stronger than either the tube material or the port stud itself, an appropriate condition for safety critical connections.
Studs are generally made of low carbon steel, and can be either a 90-degree port or a straight port. Threads can be external or internal, and are available as NPT, 37 degree JIC, SAE O Ring or Face Seal O Ring thread design. Weld base diameters are available up to and including 1 inch diameter. Since all studs are custom manufactured, body dimensions and elevations can be produced per customer specification.
90-degree ports are typically 2 piece brazed design, or depending on volume and design, may be a one piece cold formed or hot forged part. Straight ports can either be machined or cold formed, depending on quantity.
Welding equipment for port studs utilize fixed mounted weld heads for precise placement of the port. Machine flexibility allows for quick and accurate change over for different cylinder requirements. Because the process is automatic, operator error is removed from the process, and non-skilled labor can be employed.
Stud welded port studs have been saving money, and improving quality for many cylinder manufactures for 25 years. Nelson is a QS-9000 certified business, upgrading to TS 16949 in 2006, and is certified to ISO 14001 environment standard.
