OFS Specialty Photonics offers four new premium erbium/ytterbium double clad fibers for high-power amplifiers and lasers. These new fibers, as well as gain modules assembled using these fibers, offer high efficiency and lower overall fiber laser cost in LIDAR, material processing, test and measurement, and related applications. Fibers are offered with standard single mode (conventional 6μm core) and medium mode area (12μm core). Both are available with or without polarization-maintaining construction.

These fibers offer high pump-to-signal power conversion efficiency and reduce required pump power. The reduced pump power results in lower overall cost. Other benefits include enhanced thermal management and increased reliability of the fiber laser module. Improved suppression of parasitic lasing also increases stability and reliability of the fiber laser module. Gain modules using these fibers are offered to ensure maximum performance of the fibers.
