OhioSemitronics now offers the Star Network fixed-network systems to provide fully automatic, wireless meter reading without meter readers or site visits. Powerful, narrow band meter transmitters allow the use of a single data collector, without repeaters, to economically read large submetering installations in developments, high-rises, and other multi-tenant communities.

STAR Network Meter Transmission Units are small, permanently sealed modules which connect to any gas, water or electric meter that provides an electronic output. During installation the MTU is mounted in a convenient location near the utility meter. Several times each day, the MTU broadcasts the meter reading and account information by way of a brief radio transmission that can be received up to several miles away.

The STAR Network Data Collection Unit is typically installed in a utility closet or storage area and provided with line power and a telephone connection. The DCU receives the MTU transmissions, time-stamps and processes the data and stores it in memory along with system diagnostic information. Once per day, the DCU contacts the off-site NCC and transfers the meter reading data.

The STAR Network Control Computer processes the information from the DCU and provides billing data and customer support information.
