OEP Couplings Type UC, Oldham/Universal Couplings-Image

OEP Couplings' type UC and UI flexible shaft couplings offer many of the advantages of an Oldham coupling, with the increased angular flexibility typically associated with a universal joint. Essentially an Oldham coupling with cylindrical (rather than rectangular) fins, these couplings exert extremely low reactive forces, even under large radial and angular misalignment.

Both types UC and UI have zero backlash, electrically insulate the two shafts, are economical compared to other couplings with similar performance, have a replaceable wear element, and have a low moment of inertia. High-tech materials and coatings minimize friction and wear, and both are well-balanced, reducing vibration at high rpm.

Type UC protects the driven component by serving as a mechanical fuse, as its inexpensive replaceable midsection shears under excess load. The Type UC coupling accommodates large radial misalignment, and angular misalignment up to 6 degrees, while exerting relatively small reactive forces on support bearings.

OEP Couplings' Type UC Oldham/Universal coupling differs from any other currently on the market in that it has a one-piece machined hub and a one-piece machined midsection. This allows for much tighter dimensional control.

As with all of OEP Couplings' flexible couplings, side-by-side testing of OEP couplings against similar couplings from other manufacturers confirms OEP's superiority in static break torque, torsional stiffness, and peak torque. OEP Couplings' pricing is typically lower than that of major competitors, and OEP's customer service is much more responsive.

Material options for the hubs include low-friction coated aluminum, stainless steel, and brass. Material options for the midsection include Delrin© (for low-friction, long wear, general use); PEEK (for high-temperature applications); and low-friction-coated Urethane (for torsional dampening characteristics similar to those of a jaw coupling, but with very large radial and angular misalignment accommodation). Shaft attachment options include set screw and clamping mechanism; bore options include plain through-bore, plain blind-bore, and through-bore with keyway, in bores from 2mm (0.079 inches) up to 30mm (1.181 inches), in all standard metric and inch bores.
