Product Announcement from Oren Elliott Products, Inc.
Most shaft couplings accommodate only very small angular misalignment that might (unintentionally) be the result of small mounting errors or of thermal expansion. Conversely, universal joints are used as a linkage between two intentionally misaligned shafts, with angular misalignment of up to 45 degrees.
OEP Couplings' type UJ universal joint consists of precision CNC-machined components, turned from bar. OEP does not manufacture any of their couplings using cheap castings or powdered metal components; resulting in a stronger joint with zero backlash.
OEP Couplings uses high strength alloys like 17-4 stainless and 7075 aircraft aluminum with special low-friction coatings. Strength and service life are enhanced by optimizing the geometry of the subcomponents--the yoke's shape is uniquely designed to maximize strength and minimize stress concentration.
Material options for the hubs include, low-friction coated 7075 aluminum, 17-4 stainless steel, 4140 alloy steel, and brass. Material options for the midsection include 17-4 stainless steel, 4140 alloy steel and 7075 aluminum. Shaft attachment options include set screw with or without keyway, clamping with or without keyway, and cross-drilled hole for pin, with or without keyway. Boot options include unbooted, booted with cable ties, and booted with formed retaining cups.
